Family vacations are an important part of creating long lasting memories. For many families, the trick is getting more cheap family vacations without sacrificing too much on the way of luxury. There are various options to get around this.
Timeshares is one option. A timeshare can be purchased between $10,000 and $30,000 in many cases. This would allow the timeshare owner(s) to vacation a limited number of times per year without paying full price for a vacation home. In addition, the alotted timeshare use can be traded on the open market for vacations at timeshares located in different travel destinations. This allows for taking more vacations at different resorts around the world. Although a timeshare does not carry the cost of owning a vacation home, there are maintenance costs, taxes and fees due on an annual basis to consider.
Another option, my personal favorite, is to purchase a travel membership. There are a few memberships out there that run in the $1,500 to $3,000 range which give the same benefits of timeshare ownership without the limitations. One of these memberships I am familiar with is a lifetime membership with over 5,000 luxury resorts, villas resorts, spa resorts, hotels, condos and timeshares worldwide. The membership allows for unlimited vacations per year and currently all 8 day/ 7 night stays cost between $298 and $799 for the entire week, with no additional fees or taxes. Members have no annual obligations as with timeshare ownership, but all the benefits with fewer restrictions.
The current registry of resorts includes four and five star resorts located in the Bahamas, Playa del Carmen, Cabo san Lucas, and most other hot travel destinations for beach vacations or recreational activities such as skiing. At a one time cost of $2,995 there is certainly value for the family desiring more vacations to consider as retail prices for the same one week vacations often run upwards of $2,500 in many cases.
Before purchasing any vacation package or membership, be sure to familiarize yourself with the company track record to avoid forking over the membership fee only to find that company has folded leaving you with nothing.
